Structure of
the day and meetings

8:00-9:00 Sit-down morning Handover only for ITU doctors (seminar room)

8.30-9.00 Morning handover in SCBU and HDU from Nurse in charge to Doctors
9.00-10.00 Teaching/Meetings for all Junior Doctors (every day but Monday, seminar room)
10.00 Morning Huddle. Structured run-through/board-round of sick patients, planned procedures, staffing levels, bed status across SCBU, HDU, ITU. Charge nurses from all areas, ITUc & LDc registrars and all 4 consultants expected to attend.
Mornings. Daily ward rounds in ITU. Twice a week in SCBU/HDU (PNW has a paper ward round on Monday and Thursday afternoon, see separate information from Gosia Radomska).
Usually time to go round on your own first to examine and review, then do a walk round with consultant +/- ITUc (although this can vary from consultant to consultant and whether you are familiar with the patients).
Fluid/infusions prescribing: day time case-loading doctors to prescribe fluids/PN and infusions (e.g. morphine, inotropes) on the fluid charts during ward round or anyway before the end of the shift (maintenance fluids and continuous infusions will be changed overnight)

20.00-21.00 Evening ITU handover (seminar room)

Weekly Meetings

We have many educational opportunities and meetings daily. Most meetings take place in the seminar room on NNU. All meetings can now be attended virtually. During your induction outlook invites will be sent to you.
